I meant to post this a week ago, but life got in the way… But it’s better late than never, right?

I want to start a new practice this new moon, and I am making it public as a way hold MYSELF accountable…

I am doing a tarot card pull on every new moon for the month’s outlook, and I will share the cards’ messages — my interpretation of them anyways — with you. I have always been suck at reading tarot (or doing most forms of divination for that matter), and I want to get better and more intuitively at it. So I’m inviting you to join me on this training journey.

I came up with the following spread based on how I approach problem-solving or decision-making: Things I want or need to know. Since the whole point for doing a monthly outlook divination is to get a general idea what’s in store for the coming days and weeks, I think these insights can be helpful in getting through the moon cycle.

I am pulling the cards for myself but also for the community in general. The deck that I use (for now) is Age of Witchery Tarot by Roger J. Horne. This is a deck modeled after the Tarot of Marseilles, so the minor arcanas are pips instead of the Rider–Waite–Smith (RWS) format. In Age of Witchery Tarot, roots are coins; rods are staves or batons; vessels are cups; and blades are swords.

So without further ado, here are the cards and my interpretation of them for the New Moon in Cancer…

1. The Current Outlook — Knave of Roots — We are ready to learn or gain some assets, particularly in terms of knowledge, skills, wisdom, etc. through seeking.
2. Known Influence — Two of Rods — There have been dueling power dynamics, fighting for dominance in influencing our ways of looking at and doing things…
3. Unknown Influence — Knight of Roots — All the while the drive to gain more assets (things, knowledge, information, etc.) is nudging us forward, almost recklessly. We just wanted more, more and more of everything.
4. Action to Take — Eight of Blades — Swift actions to cut through any confusion, and sort out what exactly we’re seeking. Quality over quantity. Then face the challenges and and move through them… Action is the key, not just sitting around and contemplate the what-ifs.
5. Be Aware of This — Five of Vessels — We might encounter discouragement or heartbreak at times as we move through the challenges, but try not to dwell on it. There might be a silver lining or two if we are open to seeing them.
6. Overall Direction — The Moon — The world might be full of illusions, assholes and yes-people, but there are those who genuinely support you and your journey. Find those people and dream together, find inspirations in the illusions, and gain knowledge and wisdom by seeing through the bullshits. And don’t forget to dance and have fun.

I tried to interpret the cards both intuitively using the card imagery, and “academically” using standard suit interpretation as well as numerology. My interpretation of the cards is by no means the definitive interpretation. You are free to decode them however you see fit.
